Milne Bay has become a very popular destination for visitors around the world. Most arrive in Alotau via cruise ship or by air and begin their adventure here. Milne Bay is made of many different islands and is great for divers.
During WWII the area played a major role as a naval base and has the remnants to prove it. In addition to pristine coral reeds, beautiful waters, and sealife, there are also wrecks that you can dive to left from the war.
This tour will give you a glimpse of the best aspects of Alotau and Milne Bay. The tour involves relaxation and spectacular culture that is only found in PNG.
This tour is 3 nights and 4 days.
Day 1: The tour begins at the airport once you have landed in Alotau. Once you arrive, you will be met and greeted and then transferred to the beautiful Tawali Resort. Tawali Resort is a world-renowned diving location that is excellently situated amongst the dense rainforest and picturesque water. The resort has a very well populated reef in front of it that is great for divers and snorkellers alike. There is also a restaurant conveniently located at the resort.
Depending on the time of arrival, there might be a chance to do a local village tour on your first day.
Day 2 &3: Over the course of three days, you will have an opportunity to immerse yourself amongst the locals and really have a cultural experience that is unique to this part of the world, and PNG in particular.
The tour involves daily visits to local villages where cultural tours are arranged. Here, you can spend time interacting with the locals and experiencing a day in the life of them.
The tour includes a Sing Sing in Milne Bay that will be performed by a local tribe. A Sing Sing is a traditional dance performed by a tribe that has often been passed down from previous generations. Each tribe has their own dance that is unique to them. The Sing Sings usually involve handmade instruments and plenty of color.
In the village, you can explore your culinary side by taking a cooking class. The class will dive into the coastal culture of PNG as you learn about their means of cooking and surviving in the jungle.
Another very special aspect of the tour is that you can be a part of the tribe's face painting and tribal marking. Anyone who has seen photos of Sing Sings of festivals in PNG can appreciate the time and art that goes into facepaint and attire for an event. Being a part of such an important aspect of the culture is really something that will stick with you.
Day 4: Depending on your flight schedule you will either have the morning to relax before you are transferred to the airport, or you be up bright and early for your flight.
End of services.
